Government misleading the Dail on St Mochta’s National School

Leo Varadkar TD, Fine Gael representative for Dublin West has accused the Minister of Education and Science, Mary Hannifin of misleading the Dail and residents of Clonsilla about plans to provide a new school building for St Mochta’s National School in Clonsilla.  Last week, Minister of State Pat Carey, representing the government in an adjournment debate specifically stated that the proposed new school building had gone to ‘architectural planning stage.’  This is not true.  On Wednesday night, Deputy Varadkar challenged Minister Hannifin on this very issue.  She refused to answer the question.

Enda Kenny visits Dublin 15

Enda Kenny TD, the leader of Fine Gael visited Dublin 15 today to officially open the new Fine Gael local office in Ongar Village. The visit also included a visit to Coolmine Community School to meet with students and to highlight the need for the school to be rebuilt, a visit to E-bay to discuss Ireland’s broadband problems with John McElligott and a visit to the Autism Unit at Castleknock Educate Together National School which was built eighteen months ago but has not yet been opened for use.

Rogue employers should be fined

Fine Gael Enterprise, Trade and Employment Spokesman Leo Varadkar TD has called on the Government to give the National Employment Rights Authority (NERA) the power to fine rogue employers that fail to pay the minimum wage to their employers.

Varadkar calls for reversal of changes to school catchment boundaries in Clonee

Dr Leo Varadkar TD, Fine Gael representative for Dublin West has called on the Board of Management of Mary Mother of Hope National School in Littlepace, Clonee to re-consider its decision to transfer the estates of Archer’s Wood, Swallowbrook, Bramblefields and Thornberry Square from their catchment area to that of Sacred Heart of Jesus National School in Huntstown.  Children will also be affected at secondary school level as Sacred Heart of Jesus is a feeder school for Hartstown Community College rather than the new Clonee/Ongar Community College.  Siblings of children who already attend Mary Mother of Hope will not be affected.

Planning permission granted for new school and community centre in Ongar

Leo Varadkar TD (Fine Gael) has welcomed a decision by Fingal County Council to grant planning permission for a new 24 classroom primary school in Ongar, Dublin 15.  The school will have its own general purpose room.  In addition, a 5050sqm community centre will be built as part of the school building with a large hall, community meeting rooms, offices, store rooms and a kitchen.  The new school buildings will accommodate St Benedict’s National School which currently operates from temporary buildings in Littlepace.  St Benedict’s is the catholic parish school for Ongar, Bramblefields, Latchford, Castlegrange and Manorfields.

€40m gift voucher rip-off highlighted by FG survey

Tens of thousand of consumers are being ripped off due to unfair terms and conditions on gift vouchers, Fine Gael Enterprise Spokesman Dr Leo Varadkar TD said today (Friday).

 

Commenting on the findings, Deputy Varadkar said: ‘The results of this survey make vouchers look like a gift for retailers, not customers. The gift voucher market is estimated at €330 million a year and it is estimated that more than €40 million worth of vouchers are never redeemed, representing a huge windfall for retailers’. …[more]

Govt reneges on commitment to set red tape reduction target – Varadkar

Junior Enterprise Minister Michael Ahern has admitted to reneging on the Government commitment to set a national target for reducing the cost of regulation to business. Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin promised the Dáil on November 28th that he would set a target within two months. But under questioning in the Dáil by Fine Gael Enterprise Spokesman Leo Varadkar TD, Minister of State Ahern admitted that the target still has not been set.
